Day 3 of our educational field trip was my absolute favorite day. It was the first day it didn’t rain since we had been there. And it ended up being one of the most beautiful days…perfect for Day 3’s agenda! We met at a boat around 9am and headed out into the Mediterranean. The water was pretty wavy on this particular day…we got pretty splashed and soaked (well, those of us that were outside!). In fact, it was too wavy that we couldn’t stop at the Castle where the count of Monte Cristo was imprisoned, but we could at least see it from the water! We continued on past the castle to the Frioul Islands. An island surrounded with the most beautiful crystal clear turquoise water I have ever seen. We took a little hike up and over hills around the island to see the beautiful scenery. Then we rounded this corner to this little private beach, where we spent the next few hours. We looked for shells, dipped our toes in the Mediterranean, relaxed and literally just sat and soaked up this beautiful view. Some even jumped in the water! It was truly magical.
Over the Weekend
Hey, guess what?? I survived midterms!! It was a long, stressful, and seemingly impossible week. But, I am so glad it is over and I managed to get through it. I am also so glad we didn’t decide to travel this weekend. It is so nice to just have a couple of days where there is nothing to be done. I could just relax and use no brain power whatsoever (which was good cause it was completely fried). And that’s exactly what I did this weekend. Oh, and guess what else?? Fall has arrived in Lausanne!! Here are some pictures to prove it and a list of things I did over the weekend.
I slept in every morning
Wandered through the Farmer’s Market and Flea Market
Wished on dandelions
Ate gelato for lunch
Found a movie theatre that plays movies in the ENGLISH version. Hallelujah.
We saw The Butler. (I know I’m little late to the game on this one. But, if you haven’t seen it…you have to! It was really, really well done.)
Stayed up really late watching the World Series (games start at 2am here)
I finished the last episodes of the last season of Friday Night Lights. (Now what?)
Played UNO (It had been so long that I had forgotten how to play)
Ate Raclette for the first time and nearly fell out of my chair it was so good (Traditional Swiss meal with potatoes and melted cheese)
Got started on Christmas shopping
Planned a trip to PARIS (I’m so excited…I literally don’t know what to do with myself.)
Bought a new lipstick (I’m running out of room in my bag that holds my entire collection…must get a bigger bag)
I think this was one of my favorite weekends, so far. Sometimes the little things in life are the most wonderful. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend too! Happy Monday xoxo
South of France: Day 2
On our second day of our field trip, we took a charter bus to two of the cutest towns that I could have wandered the streets of forever and never get sick of them. The first town was Aix en Provence. We explored the old city with our tour guide and he told us all about the history of the town and the Cathedrale St. Sauveur. And afterwards we were free to roam around and shop before meeting back at the bus to head to the next town Cassis, which is a really pretty fishing harbor. It was raining again on the second day. Which apparently is unusual for the South of France. At least that’s what our tour guide kept telling us. He said they get about 5 days of rain a year…and this was our second day of rain. (Lucky us!) It still didn’t hold us back though, we could explore in rain or shine! And even on a rainy day, these towns were beautiful. I can’t even imagine how pretty it would have been on the sunniest day.
^^On our way to the towns we stopped on top of a cliff that looked out over the towns and it was just stunning. Even on a cloudy, rainy day.
^^The view down the cliff.
^^Provonce is known for their lavender. And I was obsessing because it is my favorite color and it smells just divine, divine, divine!
^^We couldn’t pass up these giant macaroons! I’ve never seen them so big!
And that’s it for day 2!
