Movie Review – The Heat

FOX LOT

Last week, I got to watch The Heat!  NO, NOT THE NBA FINALS.  I was invited to a screening of the highly anticipated movie, The Heat, on the Fox Lot.  The stars of the movie – Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock, two comedic geniuses.  I couldn’t wait to see this pair in action!  I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say they KILLED IT!

The Heat

Here is a little teaser trailer…

Melissa McCarthy was definitely the best part of the movie.  Melissa’s improv skills are epic.  The stuff that comes out of her mouth is insanely fresh and funny (and a lot of times… completely inappropriate! haha).  Sandra Bullock was right there with her as the comedic veteran of the movie, playing the uptight, by the book character that she so perfectly plays.  Their “odd couple” style relationship made them the perfect partners in crime and in comedy!

My one wish was for better casting of the other characters (not including Marlon Wayans and Michael Rapaport.  They were great).  The “bad guys” and the other cops were just not that believable.  If those other actors or characters were better developed or comparable to the level of the leads the movie would have been 10 times better.

The movie is a summer blockbuster kind of movie.  A little cheesy.  Ok, really cheesy.  BUT you will definitely have a good laugh out loud!

A Campfire In My Oven

S’mores are my favorite summer treat! But, making s’mores usually requires relying on the weather to behave itself. So, what do you do when it’s raining outside? You can’t start a fire, you can’t make your s’mores, and you’re really craving them! Well don’t fret because I stumbled across a solution…S’MORES BROWNIES! It’s like a campfire inside your oven. And they are quite delicious!

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

10 oz. bittersweet chocolate, either a chopped bar or use chocolate chips

1 cup sugar

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar

4 eggs

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 1/3 cups cake flour

3 tablespoons natural cocoa powder

10 whole graham crackers, crushed in your hand

12 regular size marshmallows

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9-by-13 inch baking dish. In a large saucepan, melt butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring often until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and whisk in sugars. Then whisk in eggs one at a time. Whisk in the vanilla and salt. Sift the flour and cocoa over the chocolate mixture. Use a rubber spatula to stir until blended. Stir in the crushed graham crackers. Pour into baking dish, spreading evenly and top with marshmallows. Bake for about 30-35 minutes. (Tip: Stick a toothpick in the center and if it comes out pretty clean, it’s done!) Cool, cut and enjoy!

Edgartown & The Randall – Beltz Wedding

Steve in Edgartown

Edgartown is the town on the Vineyard that is most like Nantucket.  Captain’s houses, white picket fences, brick sidewalks… you get the idea.  The morning before the wedding, Steve and I explored this cute little town.  Steve loves looking at architecture so we weaved through all of the streets and we happened to stumble across my new fav house…

WeddingEnjoying a Dark & Stormy during cocktail hour!  Here’s the the happy couple!

IMG_3838Amy & Chris named their tables after places that are special to them so we were very curious when we learned that the name of our table was Black Eyed Susans.  Could it be a connection to Nantucket’s Black Eyed Susans??  The table cards had the stories on the back and as it turns out, BES is Chris’s favorite breakfast spot.  He was able to take Amy there when they came to Nantucket in 2011 for our wedding.  We were very touched!

Well… it was another great day OTV!
