Fourth of July 2012

The Fourth of July starts out with everyone dressed in his or her red, white, and blue packing Main Street to participate in all of the morning’s festivities.

There is face painting, a dunk tank, pie-eating contests and my favorite, the watermelon-eating contest (one of these years I’ll get a first place ribbon!)….

After a couple hours of fun, our town’s fire truck makes it’s way to the top of Main Street.

Fourth of July 5

And our town’s old fire truck (representing the towns people) makes it’s way to the bottom of Main Street.

Fourth of July 7

Then, there is a huge water fight between the firefighters and the towns people!!

And, of course, it would not be a Nantucket Fourth of July without a couple lobsters and a barbeque later in the evening.

There is just something about a small town Fourth of July that makes me more patriotic than I would otherwise be. Happy Independence Day!
