My Mascara Tips for Big Lashes

WARNING: You might get an overload of my face after reading this post. I am so sorry.

I always have people ask me if my eyelashes are real or what kinda of mascara I use!  The answers…

My eyelashes are real and I use Cover Girl Professional – Super Thick Lash Mascara… (it’s their cheapest one and it’s in a red bottle that is usually at the bottom of the displays. Be sure not to get waterproof mascara.) I love this mascara because it still uses the traditional brush and not one of those weird silicon spikey brushes.

What I wish I could tell everyone when they ask is how I put it on! I think that is the real trick to my lashes… so I am going to tell you all!

That’s me on the left with no mascara on. Unrecognizable, I know. Kinda scary with blonde eyelashes. And then that’s me on the right after I put my mascara on!  Yay, much better!

MascaraTips

Step 1: Mascara first!  Apply mascara before you put on concealer, eyeshadow, bronzer or blush!  You are going to get the mascara all over your eyelids…and I mean all over… don’t worry!  You can easily clean it up with a Ponds Make Up wipe.

Step 2:  Start applying the mascara. Quite a few coats.

Step 3:  THE TRICK IS TO GET RIGHT DOWN TO THE BASE OF THE LASHES!  That way you can really lift up those lashes.

MascaraTips3

You really can’t get down to the root to lift up the lashes without getting it everywhere!

Step 4:  Then wait a minute or two, until the mascara has dried a little.  You don’t want it to be wet but you don’t want it to be fully dried.  Touch it first and if its too wet don’t do it.  It’s kinda like a Goldilocks thing… Not too wet, not too dry… Just right.

Then take your little finger and spread out your lashes.  Getting to the root – pushing them up and then spreading them out.  A little bit of the mascara will come off on your finger, but that is good!  You don’t want too much mascara on or soooo many layers that it looks clumpy.

MascaraTips4

Step 5:  Now, apply a few more coats of mascara.  This time, really focusing on the tips of your lashes.

MascaraTips5

Step 6:  Wait another minute and then spread them out again.  (You can repeat these steps again, if you want them even bigger!)

Step 7:  You want to make sure the mascara on your lashes is fully dry before you wipe away the unwanted mascara.  Now, take your make up wipe and wipe away all the mascara around your eyes!

MascaraTips6

See, all clean!  And now you can put on the rest of your make up!

Not too crazy or hard!  Let me know if you try it and if it works for you!

My favorite beauty products these days all have to do with my shower process.  In the summertime, there is nothing like a good outdoor shower to cool off and make you feel refreshed.

Coconut Oil:  I know coconut oil is totally the trend these days but I think it is for good reason.  Next time you are at the grocery store pick up a jar.  After a shower slather yourself up!  A little goes a long way.  It is definitely greasy (it’s oil after all) so I usually throw on a bathrobe after I apply before I get dressed.  It needs a few minutes to soak into the skin but it leaves you feeling super soft!  *Choose a jar that says organic, virgin and unrefined.  Avoid “raw” – it doesn’t rub in as well*

Oribe Brilliance and Shine Shampoo & Conditioner:  I have the lamest hair out of all the sisters so I need all the help I can get.  Oribe makes a ton of different shampoo and conditioner formulas (volume, color treated etc) but this one is by far my fav.  Just by saying the name you feel so fancy!  It makes my fine hair look healthy and full without weighing it down.

Fresh Citron Shower Gel:  Fresh is one of my favorite beauty product companies because their products just smell so good and they are paraben free!!  During the summer a citrus smell makes you feel clean and refreshed!

“Butler Please” Essie Nail Polish:  I don’t think this needs any explanation… Essie Nail Polishes speak for themselves!  They have the best colors.  I love Essie.  This bright blue color is my color for the summer this year!

Rosewater Spray:  I stole this one from Gisele.  Yes, THE Gisele Bundchen.  I would always see her spraying her face with Rosewater after her workouts (She worked out at Tracy for a few months)!  Rosewater is so refreshing and moisturizing.  I spray it on after I wash my face/before I put on my makeup, after workouts, before bed and whenever I need a little pick me up (you can spray over makeup).  It leaves the skin dewey and refreshed!  And it smells amazing too!  You can pick this up at Whole Foods.  Thanks, Gisele!

Rohto Cool Eye Drops:  These are the BEST eye drops for red eyes.  I have a problem with red eyes.  My eye doctor said it was probably from being out in the sun without sunglasses when I was younger.  I could get surgery but it could make it worse… so these eye drops are the best option for me and have been a life saver!  (I feel like I look like a druggie with my red eyes lol)  They clear the red from your eyes and they are also cooling and soothing!  Can’t live without these drops!

“Vegas Volt” MAC Lipstick: I don’t think I have ever gone a day without putting on lipstick or lipgloss since I was old enough to start wearing it. You know those sayings on Pinterest like “When you’re having a bad day, at least there is lipstick!” and “I believe in the power of lipstick!”? I’m a 100% believer in all of those sayings. I believe lipstick is magical. Bright colors are an absolute must in the summer time for me and my current favorite is this bright coral color!

Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer: I have been using this moisturizer for as long as I can remember. I stopped trying new moisturizers after I came across this one because I love it so much. It is made with mainly natural ingredients, it feels so refreshing when I put it on every morning, and it has SPF in it, which is an absolute must for me! I can’t live without this stuff.

Bobbi Brown “Rose” Blush: I have been using this blush for a couple years now and I really like it because of all the different shades of pink that you can sweep your brush across. It has a little bit of shimmer in it too, which I love!

Covergirl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara: All three of us use this mascara because we don’t think there is a better one out there! It’s that good.

Ponds Cleansing Towelettes: We all use these to take off our makeup every night! It makes it so much easier than just water, and so much less messy than Vaseline!

The Great Debate – Eyebrow Edition

TO DYE OR NOT TO DYE? THAT IS THE QUESTION!

My friend, Jasmine, had been spending the last few months trying to convince me that I should dye my eye brows darker.  Everywhere we went, every magazine she looked at, every time we watched TV… she pointed out ALL the blondes who have dark eyebrows.

Caroline said NO to the darker eyebrows idea.  She thinks hair should match the eyebrows.  Natural blondes should have blonde eyebrows.  And what Caroline says (usually) goes.   I value both of these girls’ opinions!  I was very torn about the situation.

Here are my girls Gwen and Jules… One has blonde eyebrows and one has darker blonde/brown eyebrows.

Gwyneth was the only celebrity we found that had blonde eyebrows!

They are both so beautiful!

Gwen and Jules

I was so nervous to try this out but I finally gave in and DYED my eyebrows!  Here I am before and after…

allison eyebrows

I’m still not convinced one way or the other!

Does anyone have strong opinions (like my friend Jasmine) one way or the other?

OR

Do you dye your eyebrows?

OR

Have you ever tried any beauty treatments that you were nervous to try or went horribly wrong?

I would love to know!

All I know is I’m glad I didn’t end up looking like this…
