Oh The Olympics!

I can’t think about the Olympics without thinking about this scene from Friends…  and I’m sure I’m not the only one!  I know Caroline would probably agree with me.

Joey’s face at the end is priceless.

I know I can’t think about the Winter Olympics without thinking about this…

HARDING

I know Emily would agree with me.  Emily and I used to take skating lessons when we lived in Wellesley.  I think we would even act out this scene for fun!  (My laces!)  We were pretty legit… we could do Waltz Jumps and Toe Loops, and I think Emily could do a Salchow.  Anyways, I know we were devastated that year.  How could Oksana Baiul in that fluffy pink number and curled backed bangs beat our Nancy Kerrigan?!?

I also can’t think about the Olympics without thinking about when we lived in Sydney and were able to attend the 2000 Olympic Games!  Here are a few throwback pictures of the Ott Family at the Olympics… Go Team USA!

Note the different flags Caroline is holding in the two pictures above!

Caroline was having a major identity crisis during those Olympics.  Am I American or Am I Australian!?  She could flip back and forth from her Australian accent to her American accent so quickly.  She would proudly sing the Australian National Anthem when it played and had no clue when they were playing the Star Spangled Banner.  It didn’t even hit us until a medal ceremony at the Olympics that she didn’t know it!  We had to teach her, and by the closing ceremonies she had it.  We did cheer for both though!

Aussie, Aussie Aussie!  Oi, Oi, Oi!

USA! USA! USA!

Oh, and we can’t forget about the Olympic themed birthday we threw for our Dad!

I love the Olympics!  This year, I’ve been a little nervous leading up to the games.  Does anyone else have a bad feeling about it?  I just really hope everyone is safe and nothing crazy happens.  All I hear about is cute stray dogs being killed, side by side toilets, mean homophobic Russians, dirty hotel rooms, Bob Costas got pink eye… I mean this is 2014, right?!? Why can’t they get it together? Come on, IOC!

Anyways, the Opening Ceremony will air tonight at 7:30 pm!  Will you be watching?

Valentine’s Day

valentinesdatesValentine’s Day is just around the corner! The Milly & Grace Girls love this holiday and believe it should be celebrated regardless of if you’re single or taken. It’s just the celebration of love, which is one of the greatest feelings in this world. Whether it’s love between sisters, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, parents or grandparents. Valentine’s day is just an opportunity to show those you love a little bit of extra love.

In honor of Valentine’s Day coming up, we put together a couple date ideas inspired by where each of us live. Here’s what we came up with…

emily_valentiensdate

This time of year on Nantucket you just feel like hunkering down and being cozy.  So my idea of the perfect Valentine’s date is a walk with Ivy and cooking dinner together at home!  Because of our crazy schedules, a walk together with Ivy is very rare so I love the idea of bundling up, heading to Cisco beach for a walk and to watch the sunset.  Then we will head home, turn on some tunes, whip up the Brown Butter, Sage, Proscuitto & Mozzarella Crostini and enjoy Candied Grapefruit Cocktails.  Living on an island we eat so much fish in the summertime that we almost forget about it in the winter so it will be such a treat to have Halibut with Orzo in Mushroom Broth.  For dessert, while we exchange gifts, we will  make the easiest and most delicious dessert ever: Indoor S’mores.  (I’ve made these before – highly recommend!)
Gifts! For me: What girl wouldn’t want to receive this Adina Reyter diamond open triangle necklace??  (It will be available at Milly & Grace this coming season!)  Gift for Steve:  There is a famous story about a 16 year old Steve doing the dishes with his head in the kitchen sink while wearing a scuba mask (yep!) and these days it’s all about the GoPro –  so when I saw scuba mask with a GoPro mount, I figured it was perfect!
Valentine’s Day is usually an excuse to do something out of the ordinary but sometimes just doing the ordinary can be simply wonderful!

All the Single Ladies!  All the Single Ladies! Just because you don’t have a boyfriend or a date on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to sit at home in your sweat pants and baggy t-shirt, eating a whole pint of Ben & Jerry’s alone…
Call all your girls up and have them over for a “Little Black Dress” Dinner Party! Tell them to wear their favorite “Little Black Dress”.  Then have them over for a fun night full of appetizers, Red Velvet wine and girl talk!  For dessert, mini Ben & Jerry ice creams… Cherry Garcia and Volun – Tiramisu (available at Target).  Also for a treat, some gummy Prince Charming frogs!  Be sure to have an awesome playlist… you can have a little dance party and make this a Valentine’s to remember!

There are so many outdoor adventures you can do in Switzerland, such as hiking, skiing, and canyoning. And I always have so much fun doing them. So, I figured an outdoor adventure would be the perfect date. One activity in particular I have yet to do is the glacier swing. You’re attached to a harness and you jump off a platform, free fall for about 5 seconds before shooting out and swinging back and forth across a glacier with huge trees and mountains around you. I think it would be so fun to do as a couple and totally thrilling.  Since its cold here, bundling up in a scarf and mittens is a must. Afterwards, grabbing some Swiss hot chocolate would be the perfect way to finish off the adventure.  And finally, at some point during the day, exchange gifts. Flowers are one of my absolute favorite things in the entire world. They make me really happy so a bouquet of red and pink flowers for me. And since it’s a Swiss themed date, a Swiss Army Knife for him.

Do you have any plans for Valentines Day yet?

Wedding Wednesday

yellowandmintweddingAs you may have already seen on my instagram, it’s Hannah’s birthday today! So, when I was looking for inspiration for Wedding Wednesday this week, I decided I would incorporate yellow into the theme because yellow is Hannah’s favorite color. That was the starting point and then I stumbled across this yellow and mint polka dot dress, and knew immediately I had found the basis for this weeks Wedding Wednesday. It’s just the cutest dress ever and I think it would make a beautiful bridesmaids dress. So, then I went crazy pulling pictures from all corners of the internet to put together a vision board full of yellow and mint! Here’s what I came up with…
