Happy Birthday to our Papa! He turns 90 today and is still going strong!  Yes, the big NINE – 0!

^^ Papa was a Sailor in the Navy and Milly was in the Army when they met!  They got married and had 5 kids!

An Ode to my Converse

These black and white Converse are 7 years old. I got them when I was in 7th grade and I fell in love with them. My mom tells me that I should get a new pair (probably because I put duct tape on the inside to repair the cloth that has been worn through), but I can’t seem to part with these. They are softened and have completely formed to the shape of my foot. They were with me when I started high school and when I started college. And they have walked all over Europe with me. They are the best!! I am looking forward to many more adventures to come with my favorite pair of shoes. Here’s to seven more years! (Well okay maybe not quite that long…my mom will probably make me get a new pair by then! ;) )

Apple Galette – Easy as pie!

All the girls at Milly & Grace are obsessed with this new cookbook, “the forest feast”.  We sell it at the store, and we have to say, it is one of the most beautiful cookbooks we’ve seen.  On my day off, I decided to try out one of the recipes and bring it into the girls for a treat!  I have always wanted to make a galette so I decided to test out their Apple & Honey Galette… and let me tell you, it was easy as pie!!  A galette is a free form pie and it was easier than making an actual pie!  You could put any fruit in your galette! You could even make a savory galette with tomatoes, pesto and fresh mozzarella!  But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… Scroll down for the Apple Galette Recipe courtesy of The Forest Feast Cookbook!

AppleGaletteInstructionsTips: 1. I cut the rind off of the brie.  2. You can use any nuts – walnuts, pecans or almonds!  I might try pecans next time (they are my favorite!).  I also might try toasting the nuts in a pan before.
