GGW 2013 – Lake Tahoe Part 2

On the last day of our weekend in Tahoe we spent playing in the treetops! You guessed it – zip lines, suspension bridges and tightropes OH MY!  We were staying in South Lake and so we headed up to North Lake to go to the Tahoe Treetops Adventure Course!  It was absolutely the most beautiful drive.  (Tip to future Tahoe travelers – take a drive around the lake!)  This shot was snapped from the car:

When we arrived to the adventure course, we had to gear up! Kelly & Allie are sporting our GGW sweatshirts that were a gift to the group from Kim when she hosted in Portland last year!  We say “Nannual” GGW instead of Annual as a tribute to Milly.  We called her Nanny :) (The sweatshirts were designed by our talented cousin Shannon!)

And yes, it just so happened that the helmets matched our sweatshirts!  How perfect!  (Caroline you would have been so happy that “it all tied together!”)

Allie was a pro!

Kelly totally faced her fears and dominated the course!

Kevin and Kyle, you would have been so impressed by your mom!!  Aunty Candy you are too cute!  And there on the right is Aunty Joan and Patty (Sisters!).

Off I go on the zip line!  My pea size head barely fit the helmet.

The group shot!  This was such an awesome activity!  So much fun to do together.  Everyone was challenged to step outside their comfort zone.  I was super impressed by the “older” ladies – they were showing us up!  (Please don’t you all smack me for saying “older” – what else am I supposed to say??!!  I’ll be older one day too!!)

We stopped at Sunnysides for lunch afterwards… They are known for their zucchini sticks.  Here is the view…

Until next year!!  Can’t wait to see you all in Florida for the 12th Nannual Girls Getaway Weekend!!

Girls Getaway Weekend 2013 – Lake Tahoe Part 1

Like Allie said in her Friday post, the girls on my mom’s side of the family get together every year for an annual Girls Getaway Weekend and this was our 11th year!!  For me, this was my favorite year so far.  In part I think it had to do with the destination – I’d never been to Tahoe before and it was SO beautiful! A weekend there only scratched the surface.  But it mostly had to do with the fact that every year as a family we get closer and closer and I was excited to spend time and catch up with everyone!

So here we are arriving at the Reno airport! (Yes, I can now say that I’ve been to Reno!) Our family literally represents the 4 corners of United States: Alaska, Northern California, Southern California, Georgia, Florida, Massachusetts and Washington!

The group: Candy, Shannon, Joann, Emily, Kim, Allison, Patty, Joan and Kelly!

That evening the cousins made fajitas for dinner and we stayed in and played some of Milly’s favorite games!  Bingo was her favorite:

bingoThe next day we took a boat cruise around Emerald Bay… This is a MUST DO!

Snowcapped Mountains!

Me & Kelly (When I was 3 I cut my own hair because I wanted it to be short like Kelly’s!  Patty was not happy.)

Pulling into Emerald Bay!

And this is why it’s called Emerald Bay…

EmeraldwaterBelow is picture of Fannette Island – a tiny little island in the middle of Emerald Bay.  Allie and I learned a little bit of family history during this cruise!  Both of our parents grew up in California and vacationed in Tahoe.  My mom told us that as a kid she learned to waterski Emerald Bay and my dad and his friends used to jump off Fannette Island to show off to the tourists on boat cruises!  Cute.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of GGW – Lake Tahoe that will be posted on Sunday!

It’s that time of year again – GGW!

Every year, all the girls on my mom’s side of family get together for a Girl’s Getaway Weekend!!  We call it GGW…

AND THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE OUR 11th YEAR!  We are all meeting in Lake Tahoe today!

Our cousin, Shannon, came up with the idea because we all wanted to spend more time with our amazingly adorable Nanny… You all know her as Milly.  Here is Milly with all her girls!

We still carry on the tradition even though our Nanny is no longer with us.  We do it for her!!

We love and miss you, Nanny Bananny!  Wish you were here!

Here are a few shots from GGW Nantucket 2008.

At GGW….

We do fun activities!

And play fun games!

We also play jokes on each other!  There I am…. almost getting “pantsed” on the beach.  How rude!

But most of all, we just love being together and love having fun!!

Caroline did not make the trip from Switzwerland.  Lame.  We will miss her!

Stay tuned for GGW TAHOE posts next week!  XO
